Advanced File Organizer Options

It is possible to configure the following groups of parameters:

To browse parameters use the Tools | Options menu item. All available parameters will appear in the Program Settings window.

General Options

General options are divided into two groups - Interface Settings and Scanning Options

Interface Settings

Use Save layout on exit to save on exit layout elements, such as column order in the right part of the main window, sorting order, size of columns and the program window dimensions.

Enable the Auto-open last used catalog option if you want to open the last catalog you worked with when Advanced File Organizer starts.

If Convert size for files and folders to compact format is on, sizes of files and folders are displayed in compact format (converted to appropriate units, e.g. MB or KB). If this option is not set, sizes are in bytes.

Use Create catalog backup (.bak) for automatic creation of the catalog backup. The backup file has the same name as the catalog file but with the bak extension (i.e. for the catalog file MyMainCatalog.afo the backup file will be MyMainCatalog.bak). It will be saved in the same folder as the catalog file. If your catalog file is corrupt and you cannot open it you can restore your data using the backup file. To open the backup file you need to rename it into the file with the afo extension (in the example above - MyMainCatalog.bak rename into MyMainCatalog2.afo or simply MyMainCatalog.afo) and open it from the Advanced File Organizer.

You can also customize the effect of Double click on file means. There are three possible options: display the file properties (used by default); launch Explorer into the file's folder; open the file with the associated application.

Scanning Options

Use Keep current descriptions when update to save you descriptions for files, folders and disks on the disk update. By default, this option is on. But sometimes, if the disk content is totally different, it is easier to make new descriptions instead of correcting the existing ones.

Other parameter in the group of scanning is Ignore hidden files and folders. Set it, if you don't want to include hidden files and folders in the catalog.

If Extract compressed files (ZIP, RAR) content is set you can work with archive files as ordinary folders. You will see the content of the archive files in the Advanced File Organizer. You will also be able to set categories and add your description for every file and folder contained in the archive. RAR and ZIP archives are supported.

If Eject removable media after scanning is set, all removable media such as CDs, DVDs, etc will be ejected from the drive after scanning.

To work with all removable storage devices using the RSM (Removable Storage Manager) set the option Use Removable Storage Manager to handle disks.

Descriptions

Advanced File Organizer can automatically import description of files and folders from description files, such as 'dirinfo', 'descript.ion', 'catalog.txt' etc. There are two kinds of description files: files of the first kind contain descriptions for the folder as a whole and files of the second kind contain descriptions for every file or folder insode the current folder. So, there are two lists of description files and, accordingly, two options: Extract folder descriptions and Extract file/folder descriptions. If the parameter is on, description files listed below this parameter will be processed. You can edit the list of description files. Click Restore defaults to use the built-in list of description files.

Set Convert descriptions from OEM to ANSI option if the description files are created in DOS (that’s usual, for example, for “files.bbs”).

Option Import the audio CD descriptions from CDDB means that for audio CD Advanced File Organizer will try to receive information (descriptions for the CD and audio tracks) from the CDDB database (http://www.freeDB.org). If you use Internet access through the proxy sever click Setup button. After that in the Proxy server setup Window you can specify proxy server options (or select Autodetect for automatic detection proxy server address and port). Also if your proxy server requires authorization you can set user name and password.

If Import descriptions from document files (HTML, Microsoft Office) option is set, the content of the title and description fields of document files will be added to the catalog in scanning. For Microsoft Office documents you will see in the description field such information as Title, Subject, Keywords, Author, etc.

The Import descriptions from MP3 files option means that Advanced File Organizer scanning tool will take the MP3 tags content for the description field (Artist, Title, Album, etc).

Language

You can select the language of Advanced File Organizer interface. In the current version two languages are available - English (used by default) and German.
